Ashkelon starts the year on a High Note

On Wednesday 27th October straight after Rosh Hashana, Telfed Ashkelon started the year with a combined AGM/Sundowner hosted by David and Ronit Zwebner in their lovely seafront home. Over a light supper which included homemade herring and kichel we toasted the New Year while watching the sunset over the most beautiful beach in Israel.

The 43 ex South Africans and Australians who attended came not only from Ashkelon but represented at least a half a dozen communities in the greater Ashkelon area as well. Doron Kline gave an interesting overview of current Telfed activities and David Zwebner enlightened us with a talk on how Ashkelon was founded by South Africans on a budget of 750 lira!

During the formal part of the evening, a committee of 7 was elected with Raphi Bloch unanimously elected unopposed as the new regional chairperson. Thank you to all who attended and to Dana and Doron for making the evening a great success.

Ashkelon is taking off with new developments, a totally renovated beachfront and a strong South African and English speaking community. We will be happy to host you all in our beautiful city which is the only place in the country where one can meet on the corner of Johannesburg and South Africa streets! See you soon.
