Telfed scholarships awarded to Ethiopian students

By Roy Scher

Telfed once again participated in the emotional annual ceremony at Machon Lev in Jerusalem, collaborating with "Perot Ha'Ilan" in honoring Ethiopian students to further their academic studies. As chairman of Telfed Jerusalem Regional Committee, it was an honour for me to represent our wonderful organisation.

For the past 25 years, Telfed has granted bursaries to Ethiopian students at Machon Lev. Those attending the ceremony were honoured by the presence of Professor Sukenik , President Machon Lev - JTC , Rabbi Rimon, Head of religious studies at JTC, as well as Lali Reiz, Head of Perot Ha'Ilan, established in memory of her late husband, Ilan ז"ל, who died suddenly at a young age 11 years ago.

Adi, who is himself a graduate of Machon Lev, is the coordinator of the Ethiopian students, but more than that, he is like a father figure to them. The warm caring atmosphere which is always present at Machon Lev sets the tone for the students allowing them to concentrate of their studies, driving them forward to success.

I'd like to note that Machon Lev has just celebrated 50 years since it opened its doors with only 10 students, and is now recognised as one of Israel’s major academic institutions with approximately 4,800 students on three campuses.  The College specialises in high-tech engineering, industrial management, business administration and life and health sciences.

Kol Hakavod to all those wonderful people who donate to Telfed ,

making the impossible possible!
