Telfed's new TECI (Telfed Ethiopian Community Initiative) takes another step forward

On Sunday 17 February, the Maksam Centre in Hadera hosted a visiting group of senior Telfed personnel.

The centres cater for approximately 200 kids after school, from 4 to 7PM five days a week.  The  primary school children receive tuition and help with homework in Hebrew, English and Math. They receive a hot meal before leaving each day.

Started by Ethiopian activists some 20 years ago, hundreds of youngsters have “graduated” from Maksam and gone on to high school, army and university. Many have excelled and some are returning as volunteers to assist with the programme, putting time and effort back into the organisation.

Telfed has undertaken to assist in the strategic development as well as fundraising activities. Telfed is also anxious to recruit volunteers from the area to provide help with teaching and homework supervision. If you are interested in volunteering or visiting the Maksam centres, send  your email, name and phone number to Mel Cohen: Melvyn.cohen@hotmail.com.
