Launching PRAS 2018/19

Mid-November marked the official start of the Pras Scholarship year with the annual opening gathering to kick-off the year. Held at the IDC in Herzliya, Pras students from across the country were joined by the ESP committee members and Telfed staff.

Simone Pikas (Head of the Pras Programme at Telfed) opened the event by welcoming all of the students and commending them for their willingness to give back to the community by volunteering with Southern African olim around the country.

Dorron Kline, Telfed CEO, introduced the students and other attendees to Telfed, explaining the roles and services of the organisation. Telfed Chairman, Batya Shmukler, then took to the podium to offer her words of advice and encouragement to the students. Following Batya's address, the head of Telfed's ESP Committee, Shely Cohen, addressed the 150- strong student contingent and shared with them the spirit of the Pras Programme.

The ceremony was followed by a series of lectures for the students to prepare them for the volunteering year ahead. These included:

  • Volunteering with the elderly by Kearn Telias from Beth Protea
  • Learning about interpersonal communication skills with Tal Shaphir
  • A lecture on child psychology by Dianna Finzi
  • Guidance on working with children with special needs by Sharon Mishkovsky from Kesher.
