Aliyah Expo in South Africa draws large crowds

May 2009 - Telfed led a large delegation of shlichim to South Africa in the last few weeks to attend an Aliya Expo which was held in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. Dorron Kline from Telfed reported that he personally interviewed nearly 90 candidates (families and individuals) and was kept very busy along with the other shlichim in answering potential olims' questions.

As in the previous Aliyah Expo in November 2008, the Jewish Agency requested that Telfed head the large Mishlachat (group) of Shlichim sent to South Africa for the May 2009 Aliyah Expo. 32 Shlichim attended this extra large Aliyah Fair: 4 sent by the Jewish Agency (including Telfed and the Modi'in Klita Kehilatit representative) and the remainder were all sent by private companies and the municipalities of Ariel and Haifa.

Over 400 people attended the Aliyah Expo's held in Johannesburg and Cape Town. 117 people were personally interviewed by the Telfed representative, Dorron Kline. The personal interviews of half and hour each, enabled the potential Olim to understand the manifold services provided by Telfed to new Olim and helped to fine tune their planned Klita process.

The Telfed presentation to the public, held on the night of the Expo at the Beyachad building in Johannesburg, was very well attended, with a standing room only crowd.

The Aliyah Expo is the brainchild of Ofer Dahan, the Aliyah Shaliach and Director of the Israel Centre. This is Ofer's final Expo, as he prepares to return to Israel after a very successful 3 year term of Shlichut. Ofer will finish his stint with the largest group flight yet from South Africa, with an estimated 200 people in July 2009.

Telfed is forecasting another bumper year of olim from Southern Africa and its staff are working around the clock to both service those that have arrived so far and those expected for the next six months.
