Beit Shemesh Regional Committee
Submitted by admin on Mon, 05/26/2008 - 11:44.
"We have been waiting a whole year for this event to come around again!" was one of the many warm responses received from the over 160 people who attended the Telfed Beit Shemesh Regional Committee Braai. The Pesach Chol Ha'Moed braai has become an annual event. Over 30 Southern African Oleh families from Beit Shemesh and Modi'in, braaied and relaxed under the ample shade of the Kibbutz Zora trees. The jumping castle was the major attraction for the kids, with the soccer, cricket, art projects and Kibbutz petting zoo, all coming in at a close second. The adults enjoyed each others company, the tour of the Zora winery (see attached pic) and the wonderful backround music provided by musician and new Oleh, Ariel Isaacson. The raffle of a fine bottle of wine, donated by Shula James - the owner of the Zora winery and herself a South African Olah - was won by Gavin Hellman. (The Levenstein's kids had such a wonderful time that their parents had to take them back to the kibbutz the following week to play on the lawn!)
Dorron Kline, Telfed's director of project development and coordinator of the regional committees, welcomed the many revelers - including Sidney Shapiro, director of Telfed and his family. Dorron brought Pesach greetings to the crowd from Maish Isaacson, the Telfed chairman: "The tremendous growth of the Southern African Oleh community in Beit Shemesh is wonderful to behold. The Telfed Executive congratulates the regional committee on the fantastic work they do in welcoming the new Olim: helping them with meals, Shabbat invitations and even furniture for their new apartments. Kol Ha'Kavod for this well attended and well organized cultural event. May you continue to grow from strength to strength."
