By Fonda Dubb, February 2008
Cecil Slevin, from South Africa (born on 6 November 1913), celebrated his 94th
birthday at Meonot Maccabi Eilat, surrounded by his 3 children, Danny and
his wife An from Eilat, Gilly and his wife Iris from Hatzeva, and Nilly and her
husband Ami from Raanana, together with Cecil’s 9 grandchildren.
Cecil served in the South African forces, in the Jewish Batallion, as a sapar.
His profession in South Africa had been a builder.
Cecil made Aliyah with his wife, Pat, in 1949, coming to Eilat in 1957. In Eilat
he worked at the Timna copper mines. After retiring, Cecil worked independently
in Eilat designing unique concrete fences which still decorate the city.
Cecil always has a smile on his face and is a perfect gentleman; he has
always been a well-loved figure in Eilat.
