Evening for Single Parents
As the social worker of Telfed, it has come to my attention that the South African community includes a growing number of single parent families. In response to the specific needs of these parents an evening was organized on Tuesday May 27 in the Telfed moadon in order to examine the particular dynamics of single parenting for English speaking single parents in Israel.
The program included a lecture on the rights of single parents, a single parent who participates in the Hebrew speaking single parent program in Raanana and a lecture by Diana Finzi, a South African child psychologist and psychotherapist on the subject of single parenting. This lecture looked at the issue of single parenting from the historical perspective and gave the parents tips on how to approach major issues.
Twelve people attended the event and the feedback was definitely positive. The participants are interested in having Telfed follow up this event with a short term support group for single parents.
