Cabinet Approves Financial Assistance for Higher Education for Discharged Soldiers

The Cabinet this morning, unanimously approved financial assistance for higher education of discharged soldiers and national service graduates in Jerusalem.  Full scholarships worth NIS 9,300 for the first year's tuition will be granted to all those who are eligible.  This is a NIS 25 million investment, in addition to the NIS 80 million that has been invested in the financial assistance plan for the first year's tuition in periphery towns.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the decision is pursuant to the Government's revolution in education.  "This is a giant reform, the results of which may already be seen on the ground, in pupils' achievements and in higher education," the Prime Minister said.

Deputy Minister Gila Gamliel, who promoted the initiative, said that, "The law will lead to a positive revolution in higher education in Israel, will significantly reduce gaps in Israeli society and make higher education more accessible."
