Shalom and Mazal Tov to those who have already crossed the one year line since their Aliyah and to those who are nearing this special Aliyah anniversary date… VASBYT!
We would like to remind you of a few important things.... including rental subsidies, compulsory health fund payments, travelling overseas and more...

A) Rental Subsidies:

1) During your first year in Israel, you received a rental subsidy that was included within your Sal Klita payments.
2) In the 13th month following your date of Aliyah, the Ministry of Absorption (Misrad Ha’Klita) informs the Ministry of Housing (Misrad Ha’Shikun) to transfer a rental subsidy directly to your bank account.
3) Please check your bank account to ensure that you are indeed receiving this monthly subsidy.
4) A single Oleh should receive a rental subsidy of approximately 200 Shekels per month while a family should receive approximately 400 Shekels per month.
5) The rental subsidy continues over a four year period, with the amount steadily decreasing each year.
6) If you are an Oleh/Olah married to an Israeli, you will need to apply for your rental subsidy – it will not be automatically deposited into your bank account. Application is made through the following housing companies: Chevrat Amidar, tel: 1599-505-700, Chevrat Matan Chen tel: *2445, Chevrat MAAGAR, tel: 1599-500-301.
7)  If you have changed your bank account details since receiving your Sal Klita from the Ministry of Absorption, please inform one of the above companies of your new banking details so that the rental subsidy can be transferred.

B) Compulsory  Health Fund payments:

1) These payments are required by law and are made through Bituach Leumi (National Insurance). (Not to be confused with payments made directly to the Health Fund of your choice for additional health cover).
2) During your first 6 months as an unemployed Oleh/Olah, you received free health insurance.
3) As soon as you start work, your employee will automatically deduct your compulsory Bituach Leumi payments as a percentage from your salary.
4) If you continued to be unemployed after your first 6 months in Israel, please contact the Ministry of Absorption in order to request a further 6 months of free health insurance.
5) If you continued to be unemployed after your first year in Israel and you are not receiving an Israeli government pension, please contact your local branch of Bituach Leumi to arrange for monthly compulsory payments for your health cover.

C) Travelling Overseas:

1) Israeli citizenship is conferred 90 days after making Aliya.
2) Once you hold Israeli citizenship, you are required by law to enter and exit Israel on an Israeli Passport or Travel Document (Teudat Ma’avar).
3) If you are planning to travel within 90 days of making Aliya, you should make sure to ask for a letter from the Ministry of Interior confirming that you are allowed to leave the country using a foreign passport.
4) After 90 days, a temporary Travel Document (Teudat Ma’avar) should be applied for from the Ministry of Interior, (Misrad Hapnim).  If you are intending to travel overseas, please be aware that the temporary Travel Document will enable you to enter and exit Israel only.

The procedure:

a) A passport or Teudat Ma'avar is applied for in person at the Ministry of Interior (Misrad Hapnim).
b) All members of the family require their own passport. This includes babies and they must be present when their parent or guardian makes the application.

c) At Misrad Hapnim you will need to fill in an application form (which can be downloaded from the Misrad Hapnim site: http://www.piba.gov.il/Subject/RegistryAndPassports/Passport/Documents/LiassezPasserToAdult.pdf
and in addition you will need the following:
• Teudat Zehut (ID Card)
• 2 passport photos
• Cash – NIS 125 for a Teudat Ma’avar, NIS 250 for a full passport, NIS 125 for a full passport for Minors (under 18 years old).

5) Although the procedure for receiving a Passport or Teudat Ma'avar is a reasonably quick one, you should make application well in advance of your travel plans.

Wishing you many more happy and healthy Aliya anniversaries in Israel.
Regards
Dorron Kline & Susan Sharon
