Hod Hasharon Regional Committee clothes drive

 Hi Everyone,

Well, we have survived the successful Pitchon Lev
clothing drive (see story below) which we had in June together with
Bnai Brith Hod Hasharon.

We have all had a good rest and ready to go again,
but firstly would like to take this opportunity of
wishing everyone a Shana Tova and well over the fast
and may we all be inscribed in the book of life.

We are planning a blood donation drive in Hod
Hasharon just after sukkot  at the Bnai Brith Hall.
We will most probably have it on Friday 24
October.

I am waiting for final confirmation from
MDA and as soon as I have a final date I will let
you all know.  In the meantime please mark this date
to come and please the vampires.  After the chaggim
there is always a shortage of blood.
We are also planning a Hanuka party to be held in
Hod Hasharon on December 25.
Hope to see the Hod Hasharon SA Community in full
force at both events.

Once again shana tova and thanks for your support in
the past.

Take care

Nechama Keynan

Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society." (Mark Twain)

The Southern African Olim living in Hod Ha'Sharon are well absorbed into the wider Israeli society of the city. Nevertheless, we enjoy coming together, especially when it means we can help the less fortunate in our country.

In this case we are not only helping needy Israelis, but also those that hail from the African continent. As Southern African Olim we are very happy to help both! " said Nechama Keynan, the new Chariperson of the Telfed Hod Ha'Sharon Regional Committee.  Almost 300 industrial sized bags of clothes, household items, bedding, toys, toiletries and dried food was collected this week by the Telfed Hod Ha'Sharon Regional Committee. Partnering with Bnei Brit and the organization for poverty relief "Pitchon Lev", South African Olim volunteers from Hod Ha'Sharon gathered at the local Bnei Brit hall and received the hundreds of parcels from donors that came from all over Hod Ha'Sharon and Ra'anana. The contents were all sorted by the Telfed volunteers and staff, packed into two trucks (which had to make two trips) and sent to the Pitchon Lev warehouse. All the donations will be used for poverty relief amongst Israelis and the Darfur refugees living in the Tel Aviv area. Tal Eisenbaum, the Aid Centre Manager of Pitchon Lev, personally came to Hod Ha'Sharon to view the massive amounts of donated goods. "This is the first time that we at Pitchon Lev have partnered with a specific Oleh community in Israel, in order to help with poverty relief in Tel Aviv. We hope that this will be an ongoing partnership with Telfed and look forward to the other Oleh organizations following Telfed's wonderful example." Attached is a picture of Nechama Keynan, chairperson of the Telfed Hod Ha'Sharon Regional Committee and South African Oleh volunteer, Edna Savitz, stacking one of the 300 bags in the "Pitchon Lev" Van.
