There was a warm welcome recently at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya (IDC) for the Shorashim group from South Africa. There were about 60 high school students, accompanied by a history and Afrikaans teacher.

The group were welcomed and addressed by former shaliach to South Africa Jonathan Davis who is now Vice President for External Relations and Head of the Raphael Recanati International School at IDC.

Jeremy Lipshitz, Co-Chair of the Telfed Young Olim Committee addressed the group, amongst others, and spoke of the support they could expect from Telfed should they decide to study in Israel. He also spoke of the social activities that the Telfed committee organises.

The group was taken on a tour of the campus, which included  the Situation Room (Cyber War Room) , where quite a few South Africans are involved in Israel's current media war. The most interesting revelation was that some 60% of the youngsters indicated that they are considering studying outside South Africa, many leaning towards Israel.
