TELFED JERUSALEM REGIONAL COMMITTEE SUMMER BRAAI
"His house was perfect, whether you liked food, or sleep, or work, or story-telling, or singing, or just sitting and thinking, best, or a pleasant mixture of them all."
J. R. R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
Summer is a special time in Jerusalem and every possible fair, fete and feast vies for a position in the Holy City. The Telfed Jerusalem Regional Committee decided to compete with the many local celebrations by hosting a ‘real’ South African braaivleis at the home of South African Olim, Mandy and Ivan Noik. The temptation of real boerewors, (provided by Colmar Meat Products, Beit Shemesh), good food and company was enough to attract the crowds. Over 60 South African (and some non-South African) Olim were to be seen on the green lawn, milling about and enjoying the pleasant mixture of good food, drink, while chatting and reconnecting with other Olim – some just off the Group Flight from South Africa and some here for many years.
"What a great idea. It's always wonderful to get together with fellow South African Olim in Jerusalem. A braai is a perfect excuse to actually muster the energy on a lazy summer night and get out and have fun," said Brett, one of the "veteran" South African Olim of the Holy City
A large and diverse crowd, they came from all different parts of Jerusalem (and even from as far out as Kfar Shmaryahu!) and some of them were rewarded by winning small prizes in the Jerusalem/SA trivia quiz hosted by Trevor Solomons, the evening's quiz master. (see picture of Trevor, together with Dori Braude, the Chairperson of the Telfed Jerusalem Regional Committee).
Warm greetings from the Telfed chairman, Maish Isaacson, were brought by Telfed staff members Dorron Kline and Naomi Heim.
By the end of the night, a number of good suggestions were made for future events - so we look forward to seeing you at our next gathering – watch this space!
