Kfar Sava Regional Committee calls for care packages for soldiers
Submitted by admin on Tue, 03/06/2008 - 14:31.
Thank you letter to the Southern African Community.
We would like to thank you all for responding so promptly and generously to our appeal for the soldiers fighting in Gaza. The response was overwhelming and we were able to provide them with the food items and necessary toiletries requested by them.
David Kaplan was part of the team of volunteers who went down south with Table to Table to deliver the parcels and saw first hand how delighted the soldiers were to receive their packages.
This would not have been possible without your help.
Thank you for taking up this worthy cause.
Kind regards
Janine Gelley and Hilary Kaplan

Kfar Sava Annual General Meeting was held on Monday 5th May 2008 at
Beit Hastudent and turned out to be an emotional evening for all.
The first part of the meeting dealt with the AGM proceedings and outgoing chairperson Janine Gelley presented her extensive report to the packed hall over 100 people of her committee's activities for the last couple of years. Janine was unanimously re-elected as the new Telfed Regional Committee Chairperson.
Hillary Kaplan acted as master of ceremony and David Kaplan introduced the background to the evening's presentations based partly on his own research in writing an article for the Jerusalem Post. To see a copy of the article on this website -

Guest speaker Lauren Snitcher from Cape Town, spoke on ‘The Ochberg Orphans’, her fascinating true story of how 200 Jewish orphans were saved in 1921 from the war-torn Pale Settlement and brought to South Africa. The operation was financed by the local Jewish communities in South Africa and personally spearheaded by community leader and philanthropist, Isaac Ochberg.
Lauren is the granddaughter of an Ochberg orphan and has researched, written and addressed audiences on the subject.
The talk was followed by the screening of her documentary, which included interviews with Ochberg orphans and their descendants as well as archival footage depicting the history and conditions in Eastern Europe in the post World War One era.
In addition there was also a presentation by Liebe sister of Aaron Klug with the story of their father Alexandra Bobrov who was also closely involved in bringing out the orphans to South Africa.
