Klaff/Messina Sefer Torah dedication at Sheba

Telfed acted as "shadchanim" to facilitate the donation of a Sefer Torah  to Sheba Medical Centre from the Messina Hebrew Congregation. The project was initiated by Prof. Mike Heim who turned to Telfed to try and identify a Sefer Torah.

The ceremony was attended by Telfed Chairman Maish Isaacson, Telfed staffer Dorron Kline and the Communities Rabbi of Southern Africa Moshe Silberhaft.

This afternoon Charlotte & I attended a very special ceremony at Tel Ha'Shomer Hospital . The only Jewish resident member of the Messina Hebrew Congregation, Jack Klaff, donated the congregation's Sefer Torah to the Shul at the Rehabilitation Centre of the Sheba Medical Centre.

 This donation was arranged by Dorron Kline, director of Telfed's Project Development, and Rabbi Moshe Silberhaft.

This Rehabilitation Centre is one of the top 5 in world insofar as rehabilitation treatment and technology is concerned. Most of Israel's wounded soldiers and victims of terrorist attacks are sent there for treatment as it incorporates the full multidisciplinary functions required by the patient from surgery, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pain therapy and the design and fitting of prosthesis when required. 

A Hachnasat Torah ceremony was arranged and attended by amongst others, the Klaff brothers and their wives, the Flaxes and Wolfsons as well as Rabbi Moshe at which a very emotional speech was delivered by Jack.

 It is unbelievable to think how this Torah made its way to Messina and then to Israel where it is now being used by our wounded soldiers and civilians
