The Department of Internal Medicine "D" is one of the 7 departments of Internal Medicine at Assaf Harofe Medical Center. The hospital is affiliated with Tel Aviv University and located approximately 15 km South- East from Ben Gurion Airport. See: http://www.assafh.org/Pages/default.aspx

My department numbers regularly between 38 – 45 patients with a vast spectrum of diseases. The special interest of the ward is Endocrinology and Diabetes as this is my sub - specialty. Yet patients are admitted with all kinds of diseases as they fit the broad "hat" of general Medicine.

My staff consists of 3 attending physicians and 6 residents. We are very fortunate to work closely with an extremely professional nursing staff, physical therapists, dieticians and social workers.

Residents begin their residency programs according to their individual time – schedules and spend about 75% in the ward and 25% in rotations and research. Due to the latest regulations, no more than six 24- hour on -calls are mandatory for each resident; these on- calls are mostly performed in the department or in the emergency room.

Residents are exposed to one- on- one teaching by an attending physician until they start rounding by themselves. They are involved in journal clubs, expected to present patients and to discuss their problems in depth at the weekly case seminars involving consultants from all the subspecialties of the hospital. They are exposed to all of the subspecialties such as Hematology, Cardiology, Oncology, Gastroenterology, Infectious diseases, Radiology and many more while working in the ward, and also during their rotations. They are expected to participate in ongoing research projects in the hope to publish.
