Solidarity event for Southern African olim living near Gaza
Submitted by admin on Tue, 06/03/2008 - 20:10.
Telfed organises a solidarity meeting for Southern African Olim living near Gaza Over 100 people enjoyed a couple of hours "break" from the stress of living near the border of Gaza as guests at a Telfed Brunch in Ashkelon last week. Coming from moshavim like Sde Nitzan and Talmei Yosef, kibbutzim like Nir Am and Ashkelon itself - the visitors were treated to a buffet meal on a recent Friday morning and were able to meet up and shmooze with fellow Southern Africans whom they hadn't seen for a long time. The lively and warm atmosphere was created by Telfed staffers Dorron Kline, Susan Sharon and Naomi Heim along with Telfed's Klita Committee Chairman Barry Kornell, Telfed Chairman Maish Isaacson, Vice Chairman Dave Bloom and Director Sid Shapiro. Maish brought greetings from Telfed and expressed the organisations commitment to helping and "being there" for Southern Africans living under the constant threat of rocket and terrorist attacks eminating from the Gaza strip. The audience was given a powerpoint presentation by Dorron on the various activities of Telfed and many expressed their surprise at the wide-ranging services which Telfed provides to the community. A local resident of Ashkelon Shmuel Pivo enthralled the audience with his one-man dramatic piece on the dynamics between a mother and son in the face of aging and "old flames" that come to visit. Everyone went back home after a modest morale booster from the event and with a feeling that they were not on their own.
