Sons of Dafur

Dear Editor,

In 2003, a conflict in  Darfur, Sudan began when rebel groups accused the central government of neglecting the area.  In response, a government-backed militia known as the Janjaweed has since been engaging in a genocidal campaign to wipe out communities of Muslim African tribal farmers in Darfur.  To date, more than 400,000 people have been killed, almost 3 million have been displaced in clashes between indigenous rebel groups and the government.

In 2007, a non-profit humanitarian organization, Sons of Darfur was established in Israel to assist this refugee community. Currently more than 3,000 Sudanese are located in Israel, with a majority from south Sudan and around 1000 from Darfur. The South African Olim community is well known for its generous volunteer spirit . Consequently  we are turning to you - as fellow members of the African continent -  to assist the Darfurian refugees living in Israel.

We are looking for part-time or full-time volunteers - the hours will vary according to the individual’s availability and will be able to work from home or our office in Tel Aviv. I look forward to hearing from you.
