Tel Aviv Regional Committee picnic

Tel Aviv – the city that never sleeps - "What's a picnic without the ants?"

The newly established Telfed Tel Aviv Regional Committee held their first get together in Park Ha'Yarkon on Friday afternoon April 11th. It was a well attended picnic with new and veteran South African Olim. Each person bought their own picnic lunch from one of the many take-away eateries surrounding the famous Tel Aviv park and came together to share picnic blankets on the bank of the Yarkon river.

"Wow – I haven't seen you in years!"

"Where are you studying?"

"When did you make Aliyah?"

"So - can you speak a fluent sentence in Hebrew?"

Olim living in and around Tel Aviv, including the new Telfed buildings in Givatayim joined the picnic. While some of the newer Olim are still studying at Ulpan Gordon , others are already well settled in their careers.

Hayley Rabie, a new Olah from Cape Town and provisional chairperson of the Telfed Tel Aviv Regional committee commented," Our planned monthly get togethers aim to provide a support system for all South African Olim between the ages of 25 and 35 years in the greater Tel Aviv area.  This is an opportunity to network, touch base and socialize."

Uzi Shimon, past Betar Shaliach in Johannesburg and himself a Tel Aviv resident, came by bicycle to join in the fun and offer his ideas for future activities. "The best way around Tel Aviv is by bicycle," said Uzi. "I suggest having an SA Olim bicycle ride around the Yarkon Park as our next activity after Yom Ha'Atzmaut." This is one of the many imaginative and exciting programmes awaiting the young Southern African Olim in Tel Aviv.

Dorron Kline brought greetings to the new committee on behalf of Telfed Chairman, Maish Isaacson, who wished the newest Telfed regional committee best of luck.

"I hope that your manifold activities will help to encourage many more young Southern Africans to decide to make Tel Aviv their new home," said Maish.
