Report January 2009

 Telfed Regional Committee Update
By Dorron Kline
A few weeks after their Aliyah, the Telfed Jerusalem Regional Committee met with the new SA Olim who came on the December 2008 Group flight. We met over coffee in a little coffee shop on trendy Emek Refaim st. The gathering was cozy and upbeat and it was good to put faces to names! The Olim seemed to be settling in well and gave positive feedback as to their first few weeks in the Holy Land.

They had a number of questions regarding certain bureaucratic procedures and job seeking and were interested to know how Telfed could be of assistance. We encouraged the Olim to be in touch with the relevant Telfed office staff that assist in Klita and employment counseling. In general, it was a positive and encouraging meeting. We welcome the new Olim and wish them good luck. We are happy to be of assistance in their Klita. Bruchim Ha'baim from the Telfed Jerusalem Regional Committee.

Ra'anana is a favourite destination for SA Olim, especially the city's Absorption Centre. In order to ensure that veteran SA Olim can impart some of their knowledge and experience from their Aliyah process, to the new comers, last week the Telfed Ra'anana Regional Committee held a gathering at the Shivtei Yisrael Shul hall. Both veteran Olim and new Olim from the previous two Group Flights attended. After opening remarks from Carol Hyman (committee chairperson) and Dorron Kline (on behalf of the Telfed staff and chairman, Maish Isaacson), the veteran Olim proceeded to tell about their Aliyah stories from many years ago and what advice they would like to give to the new Olim. Each of the new Olim in turn inspired the crowd with their strong Zionist fervor by describing their personal reasons for making Aliyah. "Israel is at the forefront of technological advances. Anything you need and any opportunities that you want to pursue, can successfully be achieved in this small yet amazing country," said Andrew Brown, one of the new Olim from the December 2008 flight.

The Telfed Beit Shemesh Regional Committee invites all new and veteran Olim from the greater Beit Shemesh/Modi'in area to attend their annual Chol Ha'Moed Pesach braai. WHEN:  Sunday 12/4 at 10:30 am. WHERE:  Kibbutz Tzora (on the main grass patch near entrance).WHAT TO BRING:  Meat and braai equipment. NEW AND SURPRISE ACTIVITIES & SPORTS FOR KIDS, KIDS PETTING ZOO, SOUTH AFRICAN MUSIC, RAFFLE, BRAAI , WINERY VISIT FOR ADULTS. RSVP

Over 90 people attended the Kfar Saba lecture by Prof. Asher Susser of Tel Aviv University on 16th March at Beit Hastudent. His address on ‘The Gaza War & its Ramification in the Region’ was a brilliant analysis by the world-renowned political commentator on the Middle East. -for full story and video clips of his presentation
