Meet the Telfed Staff
Directorate:
Sidney Shapiro
Telfed Director
Sidney coordinates all the activities and services of Telfed towards achieving its vision and
financial objectives. He continuously liaisons between the multifarious components of the
organization, ensuring a harmonious atmosphere for efficient and pleasant working relationships.
He is ultimately responsible for the strategic planning of the organization, as well as
developing programmes and services for the benefit and wellbeing of the Southern African
community in Israel. Sidney made Aliyah 40 years ago from Cape Town and with 39 years
at Telfed he is most probably one of the longest serving directors of an N.G.O.

Nava Lapid
Financial and Administrative Director of Telfed.
Nava is our financial guru and responsible for all the bookkeeping systems, relationships
with banks, financial reports and annual financial statements, the annual budget and
control of the budget, investments, legal matters, ensures the compliancy regulations
of the Israeli authorities, responsible for staff matters and for office affairs.

Dorron Kline
After four years as the Aliyah Shaliach in South Africa, Dorron had to continue working
with Olim. Now as Telfed’s Deputy Director he is in charge of Telfed’s Aliya and Klita services;
coordinates the activities of the Telfed Regional Committees; oversees Telfed’s activities
with other immigrant organisations and is responsible for Telfed’s public relations and
fundraising activities. After schlepping around South African during his shlichut, visiting
Jewish youth camps with his wife and his five beautiful daughters, Dorron is now
happily and well settled in the city of Beit Shemesh.

Aliyah and Klita Division:
Louise Geva
Louise is TELFED’S full time social worker. She has a B.A in English Literature, a Masters in
Library and Information Science and a Bachelors degree in Social Work. Louise uses her
professional training and her 36 years of experience living in Israel to provide professional
counseling for new and veteran olim. Her second responsibility is the administration of
TELFED’S Loans and Assistance Committee.

Sharon Bernstein
Sharon has been a member of Telfed's staff for 24 years. She is currently the administrative
assistant to the Director, Management and Executive committees; the employment advisor;
the processor of all Keren Telfed and Keren Aliza donations; secretary to the Media committee
as well as the front desk receptionist. Sharon is also a proof-reader for our Telfed magazine
and works on aspects of the production side of the magazine.
Susan Sharon
Susan is Telfed’s Aliya and Klita advisor assisting the constant flow of olim in both their pre and post
Aliyah process. She also administrates the “Endowments and Scholarships Committee” as well as
Telfed’s Trust Funds.

Yael Biram-Malach
As a social worker, Yael heads and coordinates Telfed’s PRAS student community service scholarship
programme, connecting young people and thereby fostering the spirit of community service and volunteerism.

Accounts Department:
Gerald Wolman
Gerald is responsible for maintaining the books of Keren Telfed, Isrentco and Telfed’s major Trust
Funds, and the processing of credit card payments.
Helayne Shedledzsky
Helayne is Telfed’s bookkeeper and responsible for daily bookkeeping, preparation of receipts and
bank deposits, journal entries / bank reconciliations and cheques to vendors. She made Aliyah 22
years ago and has been working at Telfed for 16 years. She resides in Ramat Gan with her Israeli
husband and 4 beautiful daughters.
Michal Merten
Michal assists the Financial Director, is the Data Base Administrator and the coordinator of the
Telfed Magazine working closely with the editor, managing the magazine donations and
advertisers' fees while keeping an eye on the office computers and the server.
Michal left the high-tech world and joined the Telfed team, wishing to work in a socially oriented
environment. She has been happily married for the past 25 years (to the same person) and
they have two wonderful sons and she devotes much time to their foster son and to foster
care issues.
ISRENTCO
Pinchas Melchior
Pinchas, who has recently passed the 10-year mark for his involvement with Telfed, manages
the business of Isrentco and its three buildings in Tel Aviv and Raanana, in which Isrentco lets
94 apartments of varying sizes to olim from South Africa.

Shalom Menashe
Telfed’s handyman - responsible for painting, electrical and plumbing repairs to Telfed’s three
buildings.
