Thanks for scholarship

April 2009

To all at Telfed who helped me start this journey!

Thank you - a big big thank you.
Having to support myself , and so having to pay for all universtity fees , it was  wonderful to receive the bursary you gave me!

The journey that I've planned is one of 4 years - a wish to obtain a degree  in  Special Education and Human Resources.
Somehow I see this bursary as a tribute to the "human resources" in the Telfed organization and the  South African community as a whole  - a community which one can see , feel and hear about in
Israel - and it's not just because of the special  accent!
I'm able to work less hours and give more time to my studies .

Again, thank you and know that your help is very much appreciated. With hope that this journey will bring me to the other side of the fence - and  from there I too can give to others like you gave to me.

Kind regards,
S.

Each year Telfed distributes approximately 400 scholarships to university and college students throughout Israel. Above is a warm letter received from one of this year's recipients.

To all the staff at The South African Zionist Federation,

I would like to thank all of you involved in the TelFed scholarship. When I applied for the scholarship, Suzan informed my application was late, but guaranteed she'll do her best to help me. I assumed she was only being polite, but to my surprise a couple of months later I was delighted to find out that thanks to her dedication, you were able to cooperate with Bank Ha'Poalim and grant me a scholarship.

A couple of days before that exciting phone call from Adele, I reached the conclusion I'll have to continue my studies next year, and not graduate in October as originally planned. This was not an easy decision to make, since the direct implications are financial. However, due to the last strike at university and the pressure to complete the syllabus in such a short period of time, I had no choice.

This scholarship literally saved my BA degree, and so I would like to thank all of you, and Suzan and Adele in particular for all their hard work. It's not often you come across people so involved and devoted to their work.

Thank you.

With great appreciation,
