Unique summer camp in Israel geared for Israeli & Diaspora youth
Submitted by admin on Wed, 26/05/2010 - 20:25.
"Camp Kimama," - the first summer camp in Israel geared for Israeli & Diaspora youth.
The camp staff pride themselves on the fact that each child is able to freely express their Judaism however they choose - free of all judgement and without fear (important for those in Europe who are suffering the strains of Anti-Semitism).
In addition, the camp also give these youngsters a feel for the diversity of the Jewish world and allows them to forge relationships with those very diverse individuals; while also rooting themselves in Israel.
Some of the facts:
x2 week program during the summer (July/August) (kids can do double sessions) - 3 sessions run
7-17 year olds (x5 age groups)
Fully kosher
Caters to all religious denominations (Shabbat services etc.)
Experienced Israeli counselors
30 different countries = half Israelis and other is international
Private beach
Full range of peulot/activities (drama; sport; water etc.)
Dining Hall – ruach sessions
Camp fire/ Yom Maccabiah/ color war etc.
Full American style summer camp experience in Israel
Mainly in-camp except for older age group tiyul
Israeli music and culture
Over and above this, for the first time, the camp will be opening a "Cancer day camp" this year, under the auspices of Sunrise.
What makes this endeavour so unique and special is:
a) the majority of youth attending will not be the cancer sufferes themselves, but rather their siblings, who are in desperate need of some fun and attention.
b) for those cancer-sufferers who are well-enough to attend, they will be able to enjoy a summer camp experience with their healthy siblings
c) there is no other organisation in Israel which organizes a regular day camp experience for cancer victims and their siblings; or just their siblings
