Chanukah celebrations took place in four cities in Israel in December. Thanks to the Zionist Federation of Australia, World Mizrachi, Shloimi Samowitz, Partnership Together and Rabbi Moshe Silberhaft for adding light, music and magic this Chanukah. Our Olim communities in Ra’anana, Tel Aviv, Beit Shemesh and Jerusalem joined in the festivities.
In Jerusalem, Telfed, the ZFA and World Mizrachi hosted our new South African Oleh and musician, Shloimi Samowitz (a well-known celebrity in the SA Jewish community). Over 170 members of the South African and Australian community in Beit Shemesh enjoyed a live performance of “Simba: The Musical”. Following our annual tradition, residents in Telfed’s Amishav and Schwartz street buildings enjoyed communal candle-lighting, scrumptious sufganiot and arts and crafts.
Following the Beit Shemesh musical, one of our Olim wrote: “thank you so much to Telfed. The event was absolutely beautiful. I loved every minute and my kids loved it. It was wonderful to see so many familiar South Africans together and to meet others. It was a warm and wonderful event and so appreciated.”
