News Brief Writers (US and Israel), Remote (April 2024)

Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) is actively searching for freelance News Brief Writers and Reporters to join our dynamic news team. This remote position is open to candidates from both the U.S. and Israel, offering a unique opportunity to cover critical stories from the Middle East and the Jewish world.

Role Overview: Candidates will be tasked with producing regular news reports, analyses, news briefs, and original stories, alongside conducting interviews and working collaboratively with the editorial team to ensure content quality. The role demands a deep understanding of the geopolitical landscape, with a focus on timely and relevant stories pertaining to Israel and Jewish affairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Write 2-3 comprehensive news reports and analyses per week, incorporating at least two original source quotes.
  • Produce 4-6 news briefs daily, based on emerging topics or assignments.
  • Attend and report on conferences and events in Israel, with reimbursed travel expenses.
  • Pitch original news stories and angles.
  • Build and maintain source relationships within the Jewish communal structure for news tips and expert insights.
  • Ensure all work adheres to the highest journalistic standards, emphasizing accuracy and originality.
  • Conduct interviews with stakeholders, experts, and relevant individuals.
  • Collaborate with the editorial and production teams to create compelling content that aligns with editorial standards and deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of reporting experience.
  • Proven ability to write in a fast-paced news environment, adhering to journalistic styles and norms.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
  • Proficient in news gathering via social media.
  • Strong research skills and ability to present complex information in an engaging manner.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with AP style and journalistic ethics.
  • Multimedia content creation experience is a plus.
  • A passionate storyteller with a commitment to impactful journalism.
