Employment
Michal Merten
was born in Israel, moved to Italy as a baby, returned to Israel 7 years later, married an Oleh at 25, worked in Switzerland, and moved back to Israel because she could not fathom raising her children anywhere else. She began her career after the army as a tour guide, later a translator for the Israeli TV.
In 1998, Michal was asked to help set up a start-up where she “fell into” recruiting by pure chance, and she was hooked. She got her diploma as HR Manager from the Open University in 2001. Once there, Michal continued her studies and took courses in Behavioural Sciences. In 2006 she certified as a Life Coach (ICA), in 2013 as Group Facilitator (Open University) and in 2017, competed a course in Occupational Guidance at Bar Ilan University. Michal has 20 years’ experience in recruitment, career coaching and lecturing. Michal understands how difficult Aliyah is and she is here, to help you make that transition with hands-on tools and career advice, in personal meetings, workshops and webinars.
Financial stability and finding gainful employment are fundamental to a successful Aliyah. Telfed offers free employment advice and counseling pre- and post-Aliyah. Whether you have been in Israel for a week or a decade, employment counseling is available to you, free of charge. Expertly led by employment advisor, Yael Strausz, and our career counseling consultant, Michal Merten, we invite you to schedule an appointment with our team.
Before you make Aliyah we recommend the following:
- Learn Hebrew! While a number of jobs for English speakers are available, if you are choosing to make Israel home, Hebrew is invaluable.
- Set realistic and achievable goals.
- Bear in mind that most employers will not offer you a job until you have made Aliyah.
- Advance preparation is key.
Below, you will find answers to frequently asked questions, advice from our career counselor in our employment blog, useful links and information on professional licensing.
Telfed’s job board is regularly updated with jobs suitable for English speakers. We invite you to visit our job board on a regular basis for updated job openings. Likewise, if your company is looking to hire, please be in touch with Yael in order to share these openings with our community.
Please note: Telfed is not an employment agency. All jobs that appear on our website have been shared with us. For more details, or to apply, please contact the employer directly.
